OMG

The holidays are always crazy, but this one has been interesting. My plan was to start knitting early, which I did, but then I had to get a job! I only worked 3 days last week but that took a lot of my knitting time since I was so tired by the time I came home. I still have slipper socks to knit for Meema, a scarf for Melody and socks for my father-in-law. At least I finished the hats and scarves for Madeline and Escher. :) Oh, and I haven't really decided, but I think I want to knit a hat for Charla. I better get to work. I'll have to update again after the new year. I have 4 days!!!!! UUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH.............

need more projects...

I finished my " Rosalie"" scarf. It looks great, but I had to fudge the cast off a bit. It was extremely confusing, but it looks great. At least it's finished. I kept calling it my "7 foot scarf". I'm not sure how long it really is, but it's the longest one I've made so far. It is beautiful, though. I'm glad I had it in OZ because I needed it a few times. August in Australia is similar to January in Texas. Yeah, it's friggin' cold!

Well, I made a knitting Christmas gift list for family and friends. I've already started one gift, which is a purse for my aunt. I chose to knit that first since I think it will take the longest. The pattern isn't difficult, but time consuming. It is a seed stitch cabled purse, so I'm sure you can imagine the detail. I think it'll look great, though! I found a sweater pattern that I might want to try. It looks easy enough...we'll see. :)

I am trying to get more projects going so I'll have more to post. Until then...

MY scarf!!!!

Well, I'm going to meet my hubby in Australia tomorrow, so last week I decided to knit a scarf and hat for the trip. This is the first project I've ever knit for myself. I found a really great scarf pattern that is modeled after the one Rosalie is wearing in Twilight. :) I thought that would be perfect since I've just become a fan of the saga, and it's a very interesting design. I started knitting the scarf on Tuesday of last week and I'm only half finished! I know I should have been finished by now, but the other night I noticed that I dropped a stitch. Well, I found two holes where the stitch was dropped, but because of the intricate pattern, I couldn't just bring it back up to the needle. I had to unravel 36 rows, which was 2 hours of work! After I got half of that back, I had to unravel more because I had dropped another stitch. I think I shouldn't knit while I'm sleepy. hehe

Well, I'll post photos of the scarf soon. I haven't started the hat yet, but I don't think I'll get to that since I'm leaving tomorrow and still have a lot of things to do.

young knitters...

Well, I guess I have put the cabled scarf on hold indefinitely. I think I'm hesitant to knit a scarf during summer months. It's sooo hot here!!! I started knitting a really cute butterfly dish cloth for my mom. I should be finished by tomorrow, if I have time to work on it.

I taught my 11 year old niece, Devyn, how to knit while waiting in the theater for Harry Potter. She was knitting by herself within 5 minutes! I am very proud of her. She is a very quick study! I took her to JoAnn Fabrics today to buy her a knitting kit. She seems so excited wants to knit all the time. It's cool to have that in common with her. I really hope she sticks with it. She is knitting a belt for her mom right now. I think it's looking great! Maybe I'll teach her the purl stitch tomorrow. :)

slackin'

I have been such a slacker. I'm STILL, sporadically, working on that cabled scarf. It looks great but I just haven't had much time for knitting since we've been in Texas. I thought I'd be doing it constantly and that hasn't really worked out the way I planned. I do, however, have plans with Aimee tomorrow and I'm going to teach her to knit. I hope I can manage that. I don't know how good I really am, but I'll do my best! I'm also going to Jamie's next Tuesday to hang out. Since she's a knitter, too, we'll probably knit and do some crafty things together. I'm looking forward to that. I am still working on getting the courage to knit a sweater. Maybe I'll start with a shrug. I really need to work on my confidence. hehe Well, that's about it for now. It's not much but at least I'm blogging again. I'll try to keep up with it from now on. ;)

challenges...

Okay, so I have been slacking a bit in the knitting department. I still haven't worked up enough courage to knit a sweater. However, I decided to be a little daring and attempt a cabled scarf!!! And I must say, it is turning out GREAT! I can't believe I'm making something like this with my own hands...truly fascinating! To be honest, I wasn't sure how it would turn out so I hadn't decided if I was going to make it for someone or just call it "cable practice". Now that I know it'll turn out okay, I think it could possibly be a Christmas gift for someone. :) I really need to start working on Vicki's purse. I'm just not sure if the yarn I chose is right for it. I know she says she likes it, but I really think there is something better out there. Finding funky felting yarn is not an easy task. I finished a scarf for a FB buddy in London, England. I'll be mailing that next week. I don't have much to report where knitting is concerned. I'll post photos soon.

total randomness...

Wow, okay...so I haven't written in a while. I've done a couple of things since my last post. I taught my friend, Lana, to knit. Now she has something to do while we watch our Supernatural marathon...hehe. I made a really cool scarf with this fabulous "stained glass" color. I'll post pics of it later. I wanted to learn a new technique so I decided to teach myself how to knit cables I found a nice reverse cable knit scarf pattern that I would like to make for my mom. I had to order some yarn so I'll start that when I get it. I'm really excited about doing something a little different. I've also decided on some Christmas gifts. I'm going to be ready this year!!! I think I'll post some pics now, so...until next time. :)

back in full swing...

I am so proud of myself. I taught Kayla how to knit!!! She only knows the knit stitch, but hey, that's a start. hehehehe I have no idea if she's been keeping up with it, though. She works a lot, but I hope she has been. Anyway, there were few opportunities to knit while my mom was here last week, but I'm back in full swing and almost finished with my scarf. Now that summer is almost here, I probably won't need it, but it does get a bit chilly near the ocean even in the summer months. :) I have also started some really cute pink socks. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep them or give them away. I guess I'll figure that out when I'm finished. I've been looking for Christmas projects already. I got such a late start last year and I don't want to do that again. I had to cross people off my list (and actually buy their gifts) because I just didn't have the time to finish my projects.

Oh, I finished Beth's purse and she LOVED it!!!! That makes me so happy. I'm hoping maybe other people might like it and she can refer them to me. I'm still not very confident with my projects, but I'm getting better with that. I made a swatch (and felted it, of course) for Vicki's purse and she loved the colors I chose, which is great since I've had the most difficult time with choosing the perfect colorway. It wouldn't have been difficult if it didn't have to felt. So, I think I'm going to finish my scarf and socks, then begin Christmas gifts! I actually have a goal. Woohoo!

organization

I made a knitting journal today so I will have something to put patterns and projects. I am trying to be a bit more organized. I think it looks great and will help me sort out everything I have in drawers. I didn't knit today, but I think I might finish my scarf tomorrow and start my mom's socks. I'm still waiting for that yarn I ordered for Vicki's purse. Oh, I also didn't get to that lining for Beth's purse. I'll be sure to get that finished this week. Ohhh, I forgot about the yarn I bought for another scarf. I think that one will be really cool! It's black, red, blue and the color is called "stained glass". I'm looking forward to knitting with that! ;)

That's really all I have for today...

so much yarn, so little time...

I finally finished knitting and felting Beth's backpack purse. The only thing left to do is sew the lining. For some reason, this project took longer than expected. I think maybe I just wasn't into it this time. I love to knit, but I could have been a bit overwhelmed from all the knitting I was doing for Christmas gifts. I'm always knitting things for other people but I have just started making a scarf for myself. I also bought some new yarn to knit socks for my mom. I'm going to be knitting another purse very soon, too. I have had the most difficult time finding the right yarn for the look I want. Not only am I searching for specific colors, it also needs to look a certain way after it's felted. Well, I am hoping to get started on knitting my first sweater very soon. I found a knitting shop in Encino with some very helpful ladies who said they'd love to help me with that. I think I'll do that Saturday afternoon while Clark is being groomed. :) I believe I am capable of knitting a sweater but the patterns intimidate me a bit. Hopefully I'll have some progression photos of my new sweater by next week!
